1936 First Knucklehead
Engine Model, 1/6 Scale
Where it all began.
Harley-Davidson's first OHV big twin, recreated as it was in its very first year.
In 1936, Harley-Davidson introduced its first production overhead-valve V-twin. Back then, nobody called it a Knucklehead yet. It was simply the "61 OHV." It was also Harley's first engine with a recirculating dry-sump oil system, the start of a new era.
The first year was a year of constant change. Parts were revised during production, and many early pieces are now extremely hard to find. This model captures the shapes that existed only in 1936, one detail at a time.
🛠 Reworked from the 3D data, part by part
The '36 is a very different engine from the 40s Knuckleheads I usually build. Comparing photos and references again and again, I reworked the following parts in the 3D data:
Display base with special "1936 First KNUCKLEHEAD ENGINE MODEL" lettering
Each crankcase carries its own serial number
